ARTIST BIO
Jock McDonald, born in Vancouver, Canada in 1961, opened his photography and film studio in San Francisco in 1986. He is a self-taught photographer whose work explores nature in its infinite permutations. Using multiple exposures, time-lapsed photography, and his signature woven photographs, McDonald strives to capture the subtle, often imperceptible changes and fluctuations that occur in the natural world all around us.
McDonald’s art has been widely published and exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including exhibitions in the U.S., Mexico, Russia, Ukraine, and Cuba co-sponsored by the Mexican, Canadian, U.S., Cuban, and former Eastern European Soviet governments. He was honored to have an exhibit at the 2009 Cuban Havana Biennial, and a solo exhibition in Vancouver, Canada titled Native Sons in 2016, as well as a solo exhibition at the San Francisco International Art Collection Museum in 2019.
