ANDREA TORRES BALAGUER

b. Barcelona, 1990

Andrea Torres Balaguer was born in Barcelona, Spain, and studied photography at the University of Barcelona.

Her current portfolio is a series of self portraits exploring the creation of disjunctive narrative, in which the artist employs gesture and selective props to suggest character and a sequence of events to the viewer without hint of resolution.

Quartz is a work from this series, in which the enigmatic subject turns her gaze away from the viewer in a dense, but empty expanse of grey. Her serene posture is contradicted by the intentional streak of metallic paint steeling her expression and view from us.

Torres Balaguer's work has been exhibited internationally at Paris Photo; Brussels Fine Art Fair; KunstRAI Art, Amsterdam; Art Madrid; Guy Hepner Gallery, New York; Galería Miquel Alzueta, Madrid; Photography Now, London; Fundació Setba, Fundació Vila Casas, Fundació Felícia Fuster, and The Shed Gallery, Barcelona, among many others.
